Networks aren’t just for the “old boys.” In fact, there are more ways to network now than those old boys ever dreamed of.
Why network? Business people network to stay in contact with customers, prospects and even competitors through professional and industry associations. Many people find new jobs by networking.
Getting started is easy, whether you just want to connect with people who share your interests, with potential employers or maybe with a support group for help with work or personal issues.
Ask your family and close friends. That’s basic networking. Chances are they have other friends or colleagues who know someone who can point you in the right direction.
Check with co-workers about professional associations you can join. Many such groups meet on a regular basis and schedule time during meetings just for networking – time to meet other people to exchange information and ideas.
Use the links below or use your search engines to find “Iowa professional networks” or “young professionals”. Check college or alumni websites, too. Start a free account on Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn or other online networking site, where you can connect with former colleagues, friends and classmates.
Final tip: Add value to the network by participating. You’ll benefit in return.
