Iowa isn’t just a state where tall corn grows. Iowa is fertile ground for political activism. The state’s citizens are highly-educated, enjoy a heritage of pitching in for the greater good and possess a strong work ethic.
Iowans roll up their sleeves to support their causes. Even during presidential election years, passionate Iowans tromp door-to-door in January’s bone chilling sub-zero temperatures to encourage fellow Iowans to attend precinct caucuses.
There are dozens of progressive activist organizations for Iowans, such as Iowans for Peace, the Iowa Civil Liberties Union, Iowa Citizens for Community Involvement, the Iowa Sierra Club, Iowans Against the Death Penalty and others.
In Iowa, activism starts at an early age, where the state’s college campuses host a number of political action groups. The University of Iowa is home to progressive organizations, including Advocates for Liberty, where members are welcome from any Iowa campus who embrace the Libertarian philosophy, and the University of Iowa Freethinkers.
