About Us

about-cinderella-photoOnce upon a time…

there was a media company that owned a really cool url – www.iowa.com. It was the early days of public domains, way, way, WAY back in 1998, before iPods, iPhones and digital cameras. Scary, huh! In those days, Iowa.com stayed home from the ball while her not-so-wicked stepsister fyiowa.com danced with the public. Fyiowa.com offered some aggregated news and information and served as a portal to other sites.

In constant pursuit of new ideas…or maybe her dancing shoes were too tight….fyiowa soon morphed into Iowa.com. Dazzled by her turn in the spotlight, Iowa.com blossomed into a community portal where non-profits and other agencies could host their own community pages.

Times changed, user needs changed and the vision for Iowa.com changed too. With a wave of the wand, Iowa.com became a statewide search portal with classified advertising and a directory. Uh well…the dress was a bit drab so poof! It became a statewide community calendar site. Certainly not as cool as the community portal thing, but useful nonetheless.

That brings us to today and a new, more engaging vision (we hope). It’s the day after the ball and Iowa.com is ready to work for you. There’s a super-fab directory of 160,000 places, where you can search for a museum or submit a review of a restaurant. There’s also a statewide calendar search for something to do or enter your own events. You’ll also find information on iowa, stories about people and places and ways to contribute your talent or your 2 cents.

Is this new vision a pumpkin or a glass slipper? Only time and your feedback will tell.

The End?

No way!….Iowa.com will most assuredly evolve again. We want to stay fresh and relevant so be sure to let us know .
